Q. How do you start a sustainable Condition Monitoring strategy? A. Call Uptime Consultant and I can talk to your front line staff.
If you need advice or a practical session for your front line staff, engineers, operators or maybe your clients workforce then Uptime Consultant Ltd can help. I was recently contacted by an associate through LinkedIn to do just this.
EMS Cognito Ltd www.emscognito.co.uk has a client in the utility sector. When EMS were delivering their masterclass the client asked to investigate Condition Monitoring further and introduce their Engineers to the available options and tools.
The session lasted about 3hrs on the clients site supported by Geraint Williams of EMS Cognito, who I thank for capturing the action photo shots!
We spent about an hour introducing the concepts and some tools for them to consider purchasing ranging from hundreds to thousands of pounds. I am able to do this with a practicitioners experience of working with CM for over 10 years in the food industry that included production and utility equipment. I can also present the pros and cons of the different technologies and tools impartially, as I don't rely on re-selling or taking fees from equipment suppliers.
As a believer in a holistic approach to reliability strategies that deliver sustainable results we briefly covered criticality, environment, equipment loading, vibration, ultrasonics, acoustic emission (Holroyd), thermography, trending, oil sampling, ROI and training needs.
The Engineers were most receptive and obviously got a great deal out of trialling some of the meters in one of the pump rooms they look after, these pumps are critical assets feeding the cooling system of a large computer hub that is adjacent to the facility. They had some issues previously so we compared "sister" plant of twinned pumps that ran on duty or on standby. The instruments reflected the refurbished equipments Vibration and Acoustic Emission levels, we could then compare these with an original unit showing some degradation but no immediate need for action.
